Hazelnut Chocolate Bars

Treat yourself to these healthy chocolate bars!

Ever made your own chocolate bars?

It's not that hard to do!

It's a great way of preparing yourself a sweet treat every once in a while.

The good thing - you know exactly which ingredients go into it, and you can adjust the flavors as you like (bye-bye refined sugar).

For these hazelnut chocolate bars, all you need is cocoa butter, hazelnuts, nut butter, a sweetener (here it's maple syrup), and some cocoa powder.

A pinch of salt will help to enhance those deep chocolate flavors, while the puffed millet adds a nice little crunch.

You see, it really doesn't take that much!

You don't have to take hazelnuts, you can choose any nut you like.

How about peanuts or walnuts instead? Totally up to you!

Ready to give this a go? Here's the full recipe.

Ingredients

100 g (28.3 oz) cocoa butter

20 g (0.7 oz) cocoa powder, unsweetened

100 g (28.3 oz) nut butter, here: hazelnut butter - alternative: peanut butter, almond butter

100 g (28.3 oz) hazelnuts, roasted - alternative: salted peanuts

50 g (1.76 oz) puffed millet

70 g (2.5 oz) maple syrup

1 pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Roast the hazelnuts (or other nuts) in the pan for a few minutes until they become nicely brown.
  2. Then, blend them into small chunks using a food processor.
  3. Then, melt the cocoa butter using the double boiler method: add it to a metal bowl, place it on top of a small pot filled with some water, bring it to heat so the steam evaporates, and heats up the cocoa butter.
  4. Then, add the maple syrup and the nut butter (here, hazelnut butter) to the liquid cocoa butter. Mix well, then add the salt, cocoa powder, chopped hazelnuts, and puffed millet.
  5. Fill a silicone mold with the chocolate mixture and freeze it for 20 to 30 minutes to firm up.
  6. You can keep the chocolate bars in the fridge for 5-7 days.
